by : Katrina

Happy Manicure Monday everyone!

“Katrina it’s 70 degrees today, tomorrow 84, and Wednesday 92!-_- and then back down to 70 on Thursday”  – morning text for Kim (lol)

NY weather seems to be trying to make it’s way into fall but still can’t cut the cord from summer just yet- similar to our manicures this week.

Kim’s Mani:

Color: OPI  “dulce de leche”  –  a beautiful nude/pink cream color!

& on her pinky: OPI ” diva of geneva”  – A red based- purple color with the perfect gold shimmer.

Isn’t her home mani on point though ?

Manicure Monday – Is it fall yet?!

by: Katrina

Even though I”ll be missing Fall in NYC this year (I relocated to Puerto Rico – stay tuned for PR beauty posts) Sam, Kim, and I are beyond  excited for fall beauty trends: new nail colors, new lip trends &  dark lips, straight hair without frizz, cool make up without it melting off once you step outside, bangs maybe?  I can keep going-We just cant wait!

With that said, Monday is Monday no matter where you go- it’s still the most annoying day of the week even if you’re surrounded by tropical weather and beaches.  Manicure Monday posts are keeping me sane this morning/ afternoon so take a look at ours:

Kim’s Mani:

From the Essie Fall 2013 “For the Twill of It” collection Kim has on Vested Interest :a mid-toned green-grey creme color. What made her choose this color? She’s dying for fall-That is all.

Sam’s Mani:

Sam has been nude-y and pink-y lately and  wanted to take a trip on the wild side and has on “Into the Night” by OPI from their Amazing Spiderman Collection. (sam wasn’t playing when she said she wanted to get wild lol) It’s the perfect metallic midnight blue.

Love both of these colors! What do you guys think? Manis were done at Spring Sun Nail Spa on 14th St . $24 for a mani & pedi

What fall colors are you excited about?!

Manicure Monday: Samoan Fancy Pants

by: Kim

Despite the doom and gloom of a Monday morning in NYC, there are always those few things you DO look forward to at the start of the work week:

– coffee/tea in the morning

– the fact that you’re 4 days closer to Friday

– oh yeah, #ManicureMonday!

We love scrolling the #ManicureMonday hashtag on Twitter, as we are always curious to see what trends people love (& loathe!)

As we’re prepping for the Fall, Sam and I were both feeling pretty “neutral” when we got our manicures this week. From a brighter, sheerer, white-based nude to a creamier, darker, more matte neutral, we both chose colors that preview some Fall trends we’re really excited about!

Sam’s Manicure: “Samoan Sand” by OPI

Both manis were done at Spring Sun Nail Spa on 14th street in the West Village. Cost: $24 for a mani- pedi. (Now that’s what I call pampering on a budget!)

Tell us: What is your favorite shade of nude?

Cutting off the Claws

by: Katrina

Happy Manicure Monday everyone! After weeks of growing my nails to what to me is “claw” lengths, the saddest day came when I had to cut them off. 😦 Having long nails definitely made me feel pretty, more girly, and all that good stuff- plus they looked amazing! But from scratching myself by accident to getting caught in random things- I just couldn’t take them anymore. How do you ladies do it?! Sam also had to trim her claws down. It was a devastating week for both of us but if you can’t even work a copy machine because of your nails- its a problem. Are we just being dramatic ?

Left: Last picture of my claws in American Apparel “Office”

Right: Post claws in Essie’s “Meet me at the altar”

Sam’s Mani: ” Up Front & Personal” by OPI

Nail Salon: Inwood Nail 4963 Broadway (between 207th St & 211th St) New York, NY 10034

Kim’s Mani: “Where’s my chauffeur?” by Essie

Nail Salon: Spring Sun Nail Spa 221 W14th st New York, NY 10011

Kim is still fortunate enough to have her beautiful claws!

Kim is still fortunate enough to have her beautiful claws!

Do you ladies prefer long or short nails ?

Beauty & the Beach

By: Kim

BBQs, beaches, burgers and (in Katrina’s case) bonfires all come to mind when we look back on our 4th of July weekend festivities. Although we couldn’t be together on the 4th, Sam, Katrina and I always look forward to getting dolled up for holidays & special occasions. At the pool, on the beach, and in the sun, we wanted to take the time to share with you all our beauty picks for the 4th of July!

Kim: I’ll be honest–I’m having full fledged regrets about attending 4 BBQs in 4 days. From Queens to Brooklyn to Jersey and back to BK–my 4th of July weekend was nothing short of a journey. My makeup choices varied slightly from day to night, transitioning from a sparkly eye (Sephora collection Silk blush/bronzer duo (used as shadow) no longer available :() and nude lip (Buxom’s Full Bodied Lipstick in “Nudist,” $21 at Sephora) during the day at the pool to a muted eye (Loreal Telescopic mascara in blackest black $8.49 at Target) bronze cheek (NARS blush in “Super Orgasm”) and a bold lip 👄 (“Heaux” by Rihanna for Mac). Snapping pics only on the 4th, the rest of the weekend was a beautifully FULL-filling blur, lol.

Also check out pics of my friends/ family and their beauty choices 🙂

Katrina: How was everyone’s 4th of July? For the week, My brother (who’s usually away–he’s in the Airforce) was in town so my celebration lasted from Sunday- Friday (and tired isn’t even the word to describe me right now!) After many exhausting but fun adventures in the city and spending time with family all week, I ended my July 4th pretty low key-which is very unusual for me. My Thursday began with shopping and ended with great food, great company, fireworks, and a bon fire. After living in a city all my life, it felt like my friends and I had a serious case of suburbia; who sets up a bon fire on the sidewalk, makes smores, while sitting around the fire in 90 degree weather?! We did. And I enjoyed every second of it! (The smoke also kept the bugs away, so my legs were spared that night.) Also, from what I can remember, my partner Kimmie and I were beer pong champions- I could be wrong though lol. Hope everyone enjoyed as much as I did! Now its back to work ::crying::

My make up choice was pretty similar to my everyday look – just a little extra eyeliner and coats of mascara . I’m obsessed with nude lips !

Eyebrow powder: Anastasia brown/brunette

Eyeliner: Sonia Kashuk – black onyx longwear eyeliner

Mascara: L’oreal Telescopic Blackest black

Blush: Estée Lauder X Michael Kors deluxe blush compact

Lipstick: Kate Moss for Rimmel London 113

Nail polish: essie – Butler Please

Sam: For the 4th, I spent the weekend at Long Beach. I was super excited because it was my first time being at the beach this summer! I like to plan outfits so I don’t over pack and end up not wearing things I packed–especially for the the fourth of July. I worked my makeup around this blue tank dress with stars from ASOS. During the day I was wearing Buxom’s Big & Healthy Lip Cream in Cherry Flip ($19). It’s the perfect poppy red. I’m starting to really love lip gloss(or anything from Buxom) because it gives off that girly, playful vibe. I’m not always looking to be so severe during the day. Then at night, I opted for a red lipstick. I bought Dolce & Gabbana‘s Monica Voluptuous Lipstick ($33 in Italian Monica) specifically for July 4th. When I looked at this color I thought it was the most beautiful red I have ever seen. The warm red color is perfect for my light olive skin tone. To complete both my day and night lip looks, I paired it with NARS Blush in Luster and my go-to mascara from Buxom. Here are some pics of my beauty look for July 4th and more 🙂

Our First Blog Award: One Lovely Blog

By: Kim, Kat & Sam

Hey Beauties! We’re so thrilled to be nominated for the “One Lovely Blog” award by Christine , the blogger behind Splashes and Everything.  Although she’s fairly new to the blogging world (like we are!) she’s certainly off to a great start, posting on her fave beauty products while giving her readers some daily inspiration. We love knowing that our NYC blog has impacted bloggers as far away as South Africa! Thanks for the love Christine, and be sure to check out her blog!

one-love-blog-awardAward or no award, we are happy to be able to connect with other bloggers, and love when people take an interest in Thirteenth & Hudson. We absolutely love sharing our beauty obsession with you! 😀

So, the rules for the award are as follows…

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Add the “One Lovely Blog” image to your post
  • Share 7 things about you (us in this case, lol)
  • Pass the award to 7 nominees
  • Inform the nominees chosen by posting on their blog

Here are 7 fun facts about us:

  1. We all met in freshman year of high school… and we’ve been best friends ever since.
  2. We use Naomi Campbell reaction GIFS in group chat. We probably have like 5 in heavy rotation.
  3. Our fave thing to splurge on is Mexican food. We go on dinner dates just to have an excuse to eat Mexican food. No shame here, lol.
  4. We still have slumber parties (usually on birthdays). During these slumber parties, we are usually raiding each other’s closets makeup bags, trading all that we can.
  5. Katrina’s favorite color is orange. Like seriously, she needs to own everything and anything in orange.
  6. Sam likes to read gossip blogs. It’s a guilty pleasure, (along with making hair inspiration collages on her phone.)
  7. Kim has recently emerged as a redhead! So, don’t be fooled by the black hair in the photos 😛

Next up, our chosen 7 (of the many) blogs that we are loving right now:

In no particular order…

  1. Being Zhenya is a very sweet blogger that offers a lot to her readers, whether it be fashion, beauty, DIY, or thrifting, she’s got it all covered. She’s also very informative in her posts and gives great beauty tips on twitter! She’s awesome!
  2. Amber’s Blog Amber was one of our first follows, so she definitely needs a shout out on her blog. We like that her posts are straight to the point, highlighting the visuals as her main focus. Love the various things she tries with her nails.
  3. The Reporter and The Girl – We like this blog and its blogger because it’s old school blogging: just writing about your life. We feel like we are stepping into this girl’s shoes and can definitely relate to her experiences. Aside from the writing, the feedback she gives and gets are (also)interesting reads.
  4. NailLuxxe– In case you guys haven’t noticed we love anything and everything nail-related (lol) so we were thrilled when we found this blog! She’s detailed, talented, and her visuals are on POINT. Most importantly, she has fun with her craft. Keep it up, girl!
  5. BoxyFoxyBeauty – this blogger keeps it real when it comes to product reviews, giving us a peek into her beauty trials and tribulations (and monthly beauty subscriptions!) and really catering to her readers’ own beauty desires, while failing not to forget her own. We know we’re always in for a treat when BoxyFoxy blogs!
  6. BSugarCoated – Another case of Buy Try and Supply (the details, that is) where blogger Bunnie takes us on an artistic beauty journey that we simply cannot help but follow. Her tips and tricks are incredibly helpful, her manis look so profesh and  she certainly keep us beauty lovers looking forward to coming back!
  7. City Girl In Red Lipstick: We love that this blogger focuses on red lipstick– but knows some days we need to tame our crimson craving and leave the red lipstick at home. There are so many different shades of red available that it can be a pain finding the perfect one. The reviews definitely help, and so do her make-up tutorials!
